Hi,
I am Ruth, wife, mother, daughter, grandma, sister, teacher, friend and artist. I started drawing and painting late in life, falling in love with watercolor for transparency and movement - Watercolor seemed to paint itself. Experimenting with Acrylic is also exciting with its texture and versatility. In both realistic and abstract art, I search for light and contrast.
Art like life is an experiment in learning and I enjoy the whole process. I love hearing the comments and stories others have around my work, introducing people to art and sharing what I know with others is as exciting as producing it myself.
My formal education was in Physical Education which I taught in Illinois, Iowa, Texas, and Wisconsin. For 18 years, I worked at St. John Lutheran Church in Eau Claire as Youth and Family Coordinator, while also substitute teaching in the Eau Claire School District. Although I have always enjoyed art, I never had art classes in school, as my electives were usually musical.
My artist career started with an oil class at From The Beginning in 1980s and two Parks and Recreation art classes, drawing and watercolor, with Dick Richardson in 1990s. I was privileged to take a watercolor course from Professor Ned Gannon in the late 90s. Since then I have attended many art workshops and classes learning from many of our talented local artists.
My work has been exhibited in local galleries and stores including LE Philips Library, Carson Gallery, the Pablos Center, the Heyde Center, the Acoustic Cafe, the Local Store and Tangled Up In Hue, as well as at many inside and outdoor art shows. I do commission work and art classes. I currently have a home studio in Eau Claire. Please contact me for an appointment.
