Discovering my passion for capturing nature in fiber art became a path to healing and purpose when a chronic illness ended my beloved, but fast paced and all-consuming career in healthcare. The required slower pace of my life has evolved into a blessing instead of a restriction as it allows me to soak in the light, colors, and whispers of life all around me. Photography, painting, and fiber art have become my vehicles to explore this amazing world.
Since my first landscape quilting class in 2018, a photograph of something in nature that strikes my imagination often becomes the springboard for a fiber art piece. These intriguing photos get printed as posters and tacked to the walls of my studio space as inspiration. It may be the way light and shadows play, color combinations of flowers, or the shape of mystical creatures that I see in the boules on trees that I find captivating. I love the challenge of expressing these elements in fabric, wool, thread, and other fibers combined with acrylic painting, inktense, and cyanotype.
